Tips from Students
Financing Phase I
Tuition: You must self - fund £3465 of the first year tuition fee. This is paid directly to the university as one lump sum, or split into 50% in term one and then 25% in term 2, and term 3. Student Finance can be sought to cover the remaining £5785.

Maintenance: Student finance can offer students a means-tested bursary of up to £9978 & Extra-Weeks Payments due to the length of the course. Other grants are available for specific groups (Parents, Carers, Disabled Students). There is also the Warwick Bursary - a £3000 bursary for eligible students.

First Year Costs: When getting started on an MBChB Course, there may be some start-up costs. You will need to buy personal equipment very early on in your course.

- Stethoscope
Littmann Stethoscopes are recommended, but expensive! The BMA provides discount vouchers at the start of the course, but Stethoscopes can still be over £70. WHAM are campaigning for a stethoscope loan service to help alleviate this cost - more details will be available when the scheme is launched.

- Textbooks
You may feel that you need to buy the latest edition of Grey's Anatomy, but wait! These text-books can be eye-wateringly expensive and in some cases, unnecessary. Warwick provides access to Clinical Key Online, a website full of textbook PDFs. There are free books in the libraries on campus, and help - yourself bookcase in the MTC. You can also find second - hand books being sold by graduating students. There is a WMS Grad Med Facebook group for sharing revision materials - including textbooks & flashcards for sale here.

- Scrubs
WMS provides you with two sets of branded, navy scrubs. These are for use during anatomy sessions, and when on the wards as part of bedside teaching from January. You do not need to get your own, although some people prefer to. The WMS Sustainability Network organise a scrub recycling scheme, where you may be able to gain extra pairs from graduating students.

- Parking
You will need to pay for parking on campus and on placement. As first year students, you can claim reduced parking fees on campus here, this is £2.50 per day, with a maximum fee of £7.50 per week. Students can claim free parking on evenings & weekends for extracurricular activities here. Unfortunately, you are unable to claim back parking costs for placements in Phase I. Many students car pool among themselves to reduce costs.
