The admissions tests are the first hurdle in gaining a place at medical school. Every University has different requirements, and will look at different aspects of the tests differently. Researching which Universities you will apply to is key, as many will clearly state which test they require, and what they are looking for in the results.

Clinical Work Experience

Clinical work experience is paramount to a successful application to medical school. Not only is it a requirement for admission to some universities, but it holds the key to providing insightful reflection for personal statements, and realistic answers to MMI questions.

It is recommended that you obtain some form of clinical work experience prior to your application, even if the schools you apply to have no stipulation for work experience. However, it can be very difficult to access this experience for a variety of reasons. These resources should help you to gain insight into the work of a doctor in the NHS - however, you may need to source additional, hands on patient care experience for some universities.

MMI & PANEL

Every medical school will require shortlisted applicants to attend an interview. This will either be a panel, consisting of different people involved in admissions - including teaching staff and current students, or an MMI. The MMI is the most common interview format, where applicants conduct Multiple Mini Interviews during their time. MMIs tend to last an hour, and have around six ten-minute stations.

Both types of interview will explore similar themes, and are used to assess your understanding of the role of a doctor, and whether you have a realistic view of both the course, and the future career that you are applying for.
